Chair, board of directors

The schedule is live, the speakers are confirmed, and I’m genuinely excited to finally show you what the day looks like.

We’re gathering Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the E-Central Downtown Los Angeles Hotel, the day before SIGGRAPH. Registration is open, it’s free, but the room is capped. So if you were waiting to see the lineup before grabbing your seat, here it is!

It goes both ways

The thing I keep coming back to with this event is how much the relationship between AlmaLinux and Media & Entertainment runs in both directions. VFX and animation studios all over the industry already run their work on AlmaLinux: render farms, artist workstations, and the simulation and finishing pipelines that can’t afford to go down.

But they aren’t just using it. Through the AlmaLinux Media & Entertainment SIG, the studios, engineers, and toolmakers doing that work are actively molding AlmaLinux into the perfect fit for the industry: GPU and driver support that keeps up with the hardware, packaging for the creative tools artists use every day, and a roadmap shaped by the people actually shipping films, shows, and games. AlmaLinux Day: LA is where a lot of that conversation gets to happen face to face.

The talks

It’s a single track day, and it spans the whole creative pipeline. A few I want to call out:

  • Fueling the Frame: What’s New with the AlmaLinux Media & Entertainment SIG and Introducing: AlmaLinux M&E SIG Creative Installer, both from Tristan Théroux, on what the SIG has been building, including the one-click installer that drops 30+ creative apps onto AlmaLinux without opening a terminal.
  • The Next Display Layer: A Live Preview of Amazon DCV’s Future on Linux, from Tristan Théroux and Karsten Gaier, with a first look at where remote desktops for creative work are going.
  • Workshop! AlmaLinux M&E For You, a hands-on session with Neal Gompa, Tristan Théroux, and David Duncan to help you make AlmaLinux fit your own pipeline.
  • Introducing the Wayland for Artists ASWF Working Group, from Nick Cannon of the Visual Effects Society, and SVP of Production and Technology at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
  • Does your EDR actually do that? from Chris Taylor, and 5 Practical Tips to Improve Your Linux Log File Analysis from Syed Usman Ahmad, for the security and operations work that quietly keeps studios running.

The full schedule is on the event page, along with the descriptions and speaker details.

Grab your spot

Free to attend. The room is capped. The first 100 registrants get a gift.

I’ll say it the same way I did last time: the room has a hard limit, and we expect to fill it. Attending is free, the first 100 registrants get a special gift, and registering early is the difference between a seat and a waitlist.

Staying for the week?

AlmaLinux Day: LA is the Saturday before SIGGRAPH 2026 opens, and E-Central is steps from the LA Convention Center. Book your room there and it becomes home base for the whole week, no commute required. The event page has the booking links and the rest of the details.

Can’t wait to see you in LA.
