The Media & Entertainment SIG
If you haven’t heard of the AlmaLinux Media & Entertainment SIG, it is a Special Interest Group dedicated to supporting and enhancing the use of AlmaLinux within the professional visual effects, animation, and post-production industries.
One of the amazing things they’ve put together is the AlmaLinux Creative Installer, a one-click solution for independent creatives on AlmaLinux that allows users to install Blender, DaVinci Resolve, GIMP, Krita and 40+ more apps without an IT team.
If this is of interest to you and you want to get involved, they’re always looking for more members! They hold monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 16:00 UTC. You can also learn more here.
New on the AlmaLinux Blog
Board election nominations are open: help steer AlmaLinux
Nominations for the 2026 board election are open through September 8th! If you’re a Mirror or Individual member, you can nominate 1 person (not yourself), and Sponsor members can nominate a representative from their organization (including themselves). All this can be done via the new Account and Election portal.
AlmaLinux Day: LA & SIGGRAPH Recap
We had a great time connecting with users and the broader community in July at AlmaLinux Day: LA and SIGGRAPH! We’re so thankful to the wonderful ALDLA speakers and everyone who made the event possible. And we appreciate Lenovo and AMD for providing some awesome hardware for us to show off AlmaLinux at SIGGRAPH.

SHIM update! Microsoft 2011 Secure Boot certificates have expired, and AlmaLinux users are covered!
The Microsoft UEFI Secure Boot certificates from 2011 have expired. The short version for AlmaLinux users: everything is covered, and your systems will not stop booting. There is nothing you have to do right now, but a quick check will make sure you are ready for future shim updates.

GhostLock (CVE-2026-43499) kernel privilege escalation: Patch released
GhostLock (CVE-2026-43499) is a use-after-free in the kernel’s real-time mutex (rtmutex) priority-inheritance code. The patched kernel for GhostLock has been released to the production repositories for every affected AlmaLinux release: 8, 9, and 10.
