What should AlmaLinux do next? Tell us!

Chair, board of directors

AlmaLinux has grown a lot since we started, and I want to make sure the work we take on next is the work you need from us. That means that before we decide, I want to hear from you! Take a few minutes and send your input to this form.

What we’ve built

Over the last few years, we’ve built a pipeline for AlmaLinux OS with security at its center, backed by a mirror network that serves users all over the world, and with millions of devices running AlmaLinux OS. Thank you to every mirror sponsor who donates bandwidth and hardware to make that possible.

We’ve worked with hosting and cloud providers so you can run AlmaLinux wherever you want to. Thank you to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, who also sponsor the AlmaLinux OS Foundation, and to Google Cloud (GCP), for making AlmaLinux images available to their users.

In March, NVIDIA added official support for AlmaLinux in CUDA, and we started shipping NVIDIA’s packages from our own repositories, so drivers and CUDA updates stay in sync. You can read more in AlmaLinux and NVIDIA streamline driver and CUDA updates.

We’ve also built a community of users, contributors, and sponsors who care about this project and invest in it. Every release, SIG (Special Interest Group), and event happens because people choose to give their time and companies choose to sponsor the work.

What we’re working on

Right now our main focus is growing the certification catalog. We relaunched certification in September with a new process that’s much faster and easier for vendors and community members, and 44 hardware systems have been certified so far.

We’re also working through the goals our SIG leaders and board set at this year’s Leadership Summit, which you can read about in AlmaLinux in 2026.

What’s next? Tell us what you need

The question that is plaguing me: What should our project focus on next? Whether we’re thinking about the next two to three years or even the next 10 years, I want to know what’s working, what’s missing, and - especially - the one thing you’d most like us to do.

I’ve put together a short survey. I hope that it won’t take you more than 5 or so minutes to complete. Your answers are anonymous unless you choose to leave your email at the end. I built the survey with CryptPad, an open source, end-to-end encrypted tool, so you don’t need an account to take part. The survey will remain open until Monday, November 16.

If you’d rather share your ideas in a discussion format, please join the discussion on the forums. Even better, if you’re at All Things Open in Raleigh next week, come find us at the booth and tell us in person.

Our board is answering the same question for me. After the survey closes, I’ll bring their answers and yours together and share them with the board at our December board meeting, and then I’ll publish what we heard and what we plan to do about it.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey, and share it with anyone you know who uses AlmaLinux. Thank you for helping us drive the project you care about!

Help us spread the word

The easiest way to help AlmaLinux grow is to stay in touch and share what you learn. Sign up for the announcements or newsletter mailing lists to get news in your inbox, and follow us on Mastodon, Bluesky, Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit, X, and YouTube. When you share our posts and announcements, more people hear about AlmaLinux and the work our community is doing.
